Iqlas Care was the award winner at BBEA 2021 of the Business Excellence in Community Empowerment Award.
Founded by entrepreneur Suhara Omar, the philanthropic arm of the Iqlas Group, previously known as Hope Kitchen Malaysia, was set up to help the underprivileged communities, extending support to the B40 group, the homeless, single mothers, orphans, senior citizens, and the differently-abled groups. Iqlas Care was also significantly involved in supporting the single mothers and women in the B40 category during the pandemic by providing an avenue for them to cook meals and earn an income.

āAs the pandemic was worsening, we had to look into business models that also emphasized philanthropic missions, and this led us to introduce the 'pay forward' model. This model allowed individuals and corporations to pay for meals to frontliners in selected COVID centers such as Hospital Sungai Buloh and a few Klinik Kesihatan in the country,ā she said.
IQLAS Care aims to be a one-stop centre for people from all walks of life to get the support that they need. Apart from raising donations and distributing food to the underprivileged community, IQLAS Care provides upskilling programs, mental health support, and job opportunities through various programs and partnerships.
āWe have established partnerships with various organisations to provide the training and support that is needed by the community. Among our partners are Risebowls, Thrivewell, Hope Kitchen Malaysia, Beana Home Quran, and Kolej Yayasan Saad Alumni (KYSER). One of our notable programmes was the āHot Meal Programmeā which provided at least 500 meals per day to main Covid-19 hospitals, Covid assessment centers, and underprivileged communities starting from mid-August and September,ā said the young business owner.
Speaking about their upcoming plans for Iqlas Care, Suhara said āWe are looking to establish a central kitchen and workshop in the heart of KL to act as training hubs for single mothers, B40 and OKU community, equipping them with skills such as cooking, baking, sewing, painting and many more. On top of this, we also look to develop our own mobile application to allow the community to purchase Iqlas products online as well as to contribute towards IQLAS Careās philanthropic projects remotely.ā
